Leaps program Norway
The LEAPS program is designed for people who would use the benefit of the au
pair institute to educate and get jobs in another country or international related
jobs.
The LEAPS program is concerning offering educations with following good job possibilities.
The LEAPS program is a higher education quality program and not an ordinary au
pair stay, which also gives the LEAPS-student higher pocket money salary during
the ordinary au pair time (to cover language school expenses) 1 or 2 years au
pair stay only is not possible.
The leaps program is now available for female students only.
The LEAPS education time is between 4 and 7 years for BRANCH 1) and 2);
and 2 or 3 years for BRANCHE 3), before you get an interesting job.
When you are accepted as LEAPS student at 1st step, you sign the LEAPS support
agreement and guarantees, which is your most valuable reference when you apply
for jobs during and after your education time.
English certficates/diplomas:
The TOEFL-test is closed now and the ILTS-takes over.
TOEFL-test certificates are valid up to 01.05.2004.
University of Cambridge has three certificate levels: FCE (First Certificate of
English,) CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency
English).

Starting studies in August/September at a college or university
The LEAPS-program design a financing line where the au pair/LEAPS-student would not have a loan to pay off when her education is finished
Your au pair stay of min 12 months must end at the same time your study starts at the university or college. (You cannot be registered away from the country some time before your study starts, but you may go home for a summer holiday) |
One year in a relevant assisting job when learning Norwegian up to higher level exam. (This year can also be a second au pair year)
Medical doctors, dentists, veterinarians and others, start a 12-18 months upgrading education in August. They need English ILTS-TEST when applying for upgrading education:

When you hold 3 higher-level certificates as foreing language - in addition to your native language - you are most qualified as international secretary in your home country or in one of the countries you have stay in at the 2nd or 3rd step |
When you hold your proficiency MD or BD diploma, we strongly recommend you to take an app 6 months course to become a sworn translator between your native language and the teaching language for your education

Star codes:
*)= If the candidate already holds the English ILTS-test certificate not older
than 2 years - or prove to speak English natively - you are welcome to apply directly
for the 2nd step. University of Cambridge's certificates CAE or CPE are regarded
equal to ILTS-test.
**)= The candidates who manage Russian quite well - and don't speak it as native
language - should take a higher level Russian language certificate before applying
for the LEAPS-program - University of Moscow.
For work and travel program participants the ILTS-test should be taken in the
candidate' home country after returning home.
***)= The education is only inside the wide area of economical management.
MD = Master Degree. BD=Batchelor Degree.
If you have BD from your home country and the required English level, it can be
accepted in other countries as basic for upgrading studies.
In Norway: If you have BD from your home country and the required English
level, you are welcome to start you MD studies in Norway after min. 12 months
au pair stay only.
Educated lawyers are most wanted to take law education in the other country
- and work with law matters related to both countries.
Educations in addition for Norway - special jobs for the future:
In Bergen or Tromso: Special fish candidates are educated; producing, transporting,
quality judge, sale. The education is at the world's best level and these candidates
are wanted all over the fish trade - at most interesting and well paid jobs -
BD which can be upgraded to MD
In Stavanger: Oil and gas production, transportation and sale.
IN GENERAL FOR ALL STUDIES: You are not guaranteed to be accepted student, as
you must meet the different universities conditions to be accepted.
****)= In Norway today the LEAPS-program only handle these proficiencies
- most needed in the country: Proficiencies by university education:
Require upgrading education: Medical doctors, dentists, veterinarians,
pharmacists, psychologist
Do not require upgrading education: Teachers for mathematics, physics
and chemistry,
Proficiencies by college education:
Do not require upgrading education: Nurses, farmers' assistants,
organists for churches (in combinations as music teacher in music schools), kindergarten
assistants.
*****)=Italian higher language certificate: University of Perugia or Siena
are responsible for arranging the exam all over Italy; and for Russian higher
language certificate: University of Moscow is arranging the exam in Russia.
Micelaneous
Arranging the courses and exams:
English: You find the ILTS-test courses at language schools all
over the world, and most of them arrange the exam - the tests written on paper
are normally arranged in June and December annually (some places even 4 times
a year), and the computer test is arranged many times a year (every month) at
universities and bigger language schools. A good alternative is the University
of Cambridge (UK) English language certificates CAE or the higher PEC.
The other higher language certificate exams are normally arranged twice
a year - some also 4 times a year:
Norwegian - University of Bergen: Language courses at public schools
all over Norway.
German - Goethe Institut: Volkshochschule/language schools in Germany
and Austria.
Spanish - Instituto Cervantes: Language schools in Spain.
France - Alliance France: Language schools in France.
Stays in France starts in September or October for the first 9 months the first
year; you leave France the 3 months summer holiday (June-August), second year
is ending just after your DELF or DALF exam in June.
Please notice for BRANCH 1) - you are welcome to start with another
language at 1st step than English and then take the other higher level languages
certificates in the order you wish - BUT English ILTS-test must be one. (An example
is, first German, then English and Norwegian, which is 4 years multilingual education.)
When you have taken the English ILTS-test you are welcome to change to Branch
2) - if you meet the other required conditions.
We strongly recommend you to start as noticed with English at 1st step, as
you normally get better conditions later at the host families in other countries/languages
at 2nd and 3rd step - as their 'English teacher'.
Please notice for BRANCH 2) - when you hold one or two higher
level language certificate(s) you are welcome to change and continue at Branch
1).
Application procedure: Please forward your LEAPS application
on the special designed register form. Later you will be asked to make your personal
presentation based out of special listed points - you receive this list when we
have received your filled in register form.
